Hi, I'm Alistair. This step-by-step guide to salary benchmarking is based on my experience working with over 80 organisations across the world over the past 15 years.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you read through it:

  1. Everyone will be at a different stage.

    What you take from this guide will depend on where you're at. While it’s laid out as a six step process, you don’t have to follow it in order. Feel free to dip in and out based on what’s most relevant to your team. You might still be figuring out job architecture and levelling, or you might be further along and ready to look at salary bands or pay transparency.

  2. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

    Every company brings its own culture, values and context. What I’ve tried to do here is lay out the common decisions most teams face, and offer a way to work through them in a thoughtful and data-informed way.

  3. You’re welcome to make it your own.

    I’ve included a free project plan and list of key compensation decisions to help you track progress. You can duplicate it into your own Notion space and adapt it to fit how your team works.
